Thomas Spence’s Advocates for the Rights of Man London (Middlesex) copper Conder farthing token dated 1795. Obverse: Legend on four lines in centre and round edge: “ADVOCATES FOR THE RIGHTS OF MAN THOS. SPENCE SIR THOS. MORE THOS. PAINE 1795”. Reverse: A man (George III?) riding on a bull with an ass's head and legend: “AM I NOT THINE ASS”. Plain edge. Thomas Spence was a reformer who rarely missed an opportunity to attack the politics of the day and spent some time in prison for his efforts. Nice collectable condition, see photograph.
