|Rare London (Middlesex) copper Conder
halfpenny token dated 1801. Obverse: A beehive surrounded by a wreath of
rose, thistle, shamrock and oak with legend: "INDUSTRY THE SOURCE OF
CONTENT" with "TP" in script beneath. Reverse: A garnished shield
on which is: "FOR CHANGE IN TRADE", with legend: "TO CONVENIENCE THE
PUBLIC 1801" around periphery. Plain edge. Listed in Dalton & Hamer as
"R - RARE". The issuer "TP" is unknown. The wreath consisting of
rose, thistle, shamrock and oak may have been to commemorate the union
of Ireland with the rest of Britain in 1800. Good collectable condition
for type, see photograph.
