Shackelton’s Candle-Maker London Halfpenny 1794
Shackelton’s London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1794. Obverse: The Royal Coat of Arms and Crest with legend: “FRANCIS SHACKELTON LONDON”. Reverse: A candle mould with legend: “FINE MOULD AND STORE CANDLES 1794”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE IN SUFFOLK – STREET HAY-MARKET .X.X.”. Francis Shackelton was the tallow-maker to the Duke of York and had a business at 12 Little Suffolk Street, Haymarket, London. Nice collectable condition but with collector's ink number on reverse, see photograph.
