Very Rare Charles Presbury Jewellers London Halfpenny

Very rare Charles Presbury's London (Middlesex) copper halfpenny token undated. Obverse: Three-quarter facing bust of Queen Elizabeth I with crown and sceptre and legend: “QUEEN ELIZABETH”. Reverse: Legend on six lines, the top and bottom curved, incorporating an oak sprig: “PAYABLE BY C PRESBURY & Co JEWELLERY & HARDWARE MANUFACTORY LONDON”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE IN LONDON +●+●+●+●+●X”. The obverse die was used on Dally's Chichester Sussex tokens and was engraved by Wyon, showing a continuation of the flaw, and the reverse was engraved by Jorden. Only around 36 were struck as they were rejected by Presbury and the order cancelled. Presbury's business premises were at 9 New Street, Covent Garden, London. Listed in Bell's “Tradesmens Tickets and Private Tokens 1785-1819” as “VERY RARE”. Nice collectable condition for type with dark tone and small stain on reverse, see photograph.
