James Lackington’s Bookseller London (Middlesex) copper halfpenny token dated 1794. Obverse: A three-quarter bust to left: “J. LACKINGTON 1794”, period at end of legend. Reverse: A figure of Fame blowing a trumpet surrounded by legend: “HALFPENNY OF J. LACKINGTON CHEAPEST BOOKSELLERS IN THE WORLD.”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE AT LACKINGTON & CO.S FINSBURY SQUARE + LONDON +”. James Lackington was a bookseller with a large business at his premises known as “The Temple of the Muses”, No 32 Finsbury Place South, Finsbury Square, London. Lovely collectable condition with much original lustre remaining, see photograph.
