Scarce Thomas Hatfield’s London (Middlesex) copper halfpenny token dated 1795. Obverse: A naked leg within a circle, legend joined by leaves: “I . HATFIELD + GOLDEN-LEGG + SNOW-HILL + LONDON”. Reverse: Legend on seven lines: “BOOT & SHOE MANUFACTORY SHOPKEEPERS SUPPLIED ON REASONABLE TERMS 1795”. Plain edge. Listed in Bell’s “Trademen’s Tickets and Private Tokens” as “SCARCE”. Thomas Hatfield was a boot and shoe maker with a business at 5 King Street, Snow Hill, London. The golden leg was the emblem of the Guild of Hosiers. Good collectable condition, see photograph.
