Hall’s Wild Animals Taxidermist London Halfpenny 1795


Thomas Hall’s London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1795. Obverse: Three exotic animals, a kangaroo, armadillo and rhinoceros with legend: “THE . KANGUROO THE . ARMADILLO THE . RHINOCEROS.”. Reverse: Legend on four lines in centre and round edge: “TO BE HAD AT THE CURIOSITY HOUSE CITY ROAD + NEAR FINSBURY SQUARE LONDON 1795”.  Plain edge. Thomas Hall was a taxidermist, curiosity dealer and proprietor of an exhibition of stuffed animals. Ex-David Young Collection. Less common variety in lovely collectable condition with some subdued lustre remaining, see photograph.
