Scarce Christ’s Hospital London (Middlesex) halfpenny token dated 1800. Obverse: A monogram cypher with date below: “CH 1800”. Reverse legend on two lines: “HALF PENNY”. Plain edge. Christ's Hospital was created by Edward VI for the education and maintenance of the young and helpless. These tokens were issued as private currency for the scholars, and were spent at privileged tradesmen's shops. Listed in Dalton & Hamer as “SCARCE” in fine condition. Ex-Gahlin Collection. Nice collectable condition, see photograph.
