Kershaw's Rochdale (Lancashire) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1791. Obverse: Hanging fleece with legend: “ROCHDALE 1791”. Reverse: Large scale detailed view from behind, of seated weaver working at loom with legend: “HALFPENNY”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE AT THE WAREHOUSE OF IOHN KERSHAW. X .”. John Kershaw appears to have been a mercer and draper with a business in Rochdale, and is also thought to have been concerned with a woollen factory in the town.
