Glasgow (Lanarkshire) copper Conder halfpenny token undated. Obverse: City coat of arms consisting of a tree in full leaf, with a bird on it, a bell hanging from it, and a salmon half way up it! Legend: "LET GLASGOW FLOURISH". Reverse: The bust of John Howard to the left: "IOHN HOWARD F. R. S PHILANTHROPIST". Diagonally milled edge. John Howard's life work was the study of prisons which culminated in his book: "The State of the Prisons in England and Wales", published in 1777. Nice collectable condition with a light strike in areas and slightly uneven reverse colour, see photograph.
