SOLD

Scarce Fuggle's Goudhurst (Kent) copper halfpenny token dated 1794. Obverse: Kentish horse prancing to the left with legend: “KENT HALFPENNY TOKEN 1794”. Reverse: Shield of arms of the City of Canterbury with legend: “FOR GENERAL CONVENIENCE”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE BY W. FUGGLES GOUDHURST ++++”. The “F” countermark helped distinguish it from the similar Myns token. William Fuggle was a freeholder and tallow chandler with a business in Goudhurst.
