John Crow's Medieval Ship Faversham Halfpenny 1794

John Crow's Faversham (Kent) copper halfpenny token dated 1794. Obverse: A medieval one-masted English Round Ship at sea, with two men on deck, one blowing a horn, while two men are on the yard-arm either side of the mast. Seven fish are in the water beneath the ship with legend: "PAYABLE AT FEVERSHAM" (the old spelling of Faversham). Reverse: Shield of arms consisting of three half-lions, half-ships, suspended from a knotted ribbon with legend: "CINQUE PORT HALFPENNY. 1794.". Edge inscription: "PAYABLE AT JOHN CROWS'S COPPERSMITH XOX". John Crow was a freeholder with a business as a brazier and coppersmith in Faversham. Nice collectable condition with some original lustre remaining, see photograph.
