Rare Dover (Kent) copper halfpenny token undated. Obverse: Full facing bust of William Pitt, the then Prime Minister: “R. HON. W. PITT. LORD WARDEN CINQUE PORTS:”. Reverse: A man-of-war ship in full sail to left: “THE WOODEN WALLS OF OLD ENGLAND”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE IN LANCASTER LONDON OR BRISTOL”. William Pitt was appointed Constable of Dover and Warden of the Cinque Ports by Patent on 18th August 1792. This was probably issued by Lutwyche for sale to collectors. The obverse die was not hardened properly and soon became spoiled limiting the number of specimens produced. Listed in Dalton & Hamer as "RARE". Nice collectable condition for type, see photograph.
