John Stride's Man-of-War Emsworth Halfpenny 1794


John Stride's Emsworth (Hampshire) copper halfpenny token dated 1794. Obverse: Man-of-War sailing to the right with tied laurel branches below and legend above: “EMSWORTH”. Reverse: Draped seated female with hands resting on globe and anchor with a crowned lion at her feet and legend: “HALFPENNY 1794”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE AT THE WAREHOUSE OF IOHN STRIDE XXXX”. John Stride was a grocer and tea dealer with a business in Emsworth. Nice collectable condition, see photograph.
