Scarce Sherborne (Dorset) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1793. Obverse: Ornamental Cypher: “P P & W” (Pretor, Pew & Whitby) with a beehive and bees crest. Reverse: A double-headed eagle: “A SHERBORNE HALFPENNY 1793”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE AT THE BANK IN SHERBORNE + DORSET +”. The issuers were Messers Pretor, Pew and Whitby who were local bankers. Listed in Dalton & Hamer as: “SCARCE” in fine condition. Nice collectable condition, discoloured, peeling lacquer removed with acetone leaving reflective surfaces not picked up in photograph.
