Bayly's Drapers Poole Halfpenny 1795

Bayly’s Poole (Dorset) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1795. Obverse: Figure of Hope, leaning on an anchor and holding a shield on which is inscribed: “JA,S BAYLY DRAPER POOLE”. Reverse: Shield of arms of the town of Poole consisting of an elaborate dolphin beneath three scallop shells with legend: “PROSPERITY TO THE TOWN OF POOLE * 1795 *”. Edge inscription: "I PROMISE TO PAY ON DEMAND ONE HALFPENNY .+.". James Bayly was a linen and woollen draper with a business in Poole. Good collectable condition, discoloured, peeling lacquer removed with acetone leaving highly reflective surfaces not picked up in photograph.
