John Powell's brass calendar medal for the year 1755. John Powell was the only maker to straddle both the Julian and Gregorian calendars, striking single year calendar medals in an uninterrupted series from 1746 to 1782. Powell was a button-maker with his business at Powell's Yard, 34 Spiceall Street, Birmingham. The British Museum has two examples for this year, ref: Ackerman, "Calendar Medals in the British Museum", The Medal, Autumn 2004. Good collectable condition with obverse die crack, see photograph.
