Copper halfpenny token dated 1781. Obverse: Hibernia seated holding harp with legend: “NORTH AMERICAN TOKEN 1781”. Reverse: Sailing ship to left with legend: “COMMERCE”. This was struck in Dublin around 1825 and antedated to evade the importation laws. It was struck without a collar to make it look older and circulated for a while in the United States. Good collectable condition for type with light scratches and flan flaw at top of reverse, see photograph.
