James Gill's Edinburgh (Lothians) brass half sovereign token undated. Obverse: Legend on three lines, the top and bottom curved: "JAMES GILL GROCER EDINBURGH". Reverse: Value on two lines with manufacturer's name below, all enclose in a laurel wreath: "HALF SOVN ARDILL LEEDS". Straight milled edge. James Gill was a successful grocer, wine and spirit merchant from 1867 to 1900 starting at 54 Lauriston Street until 1874 when he moved to 10 Portland Place, finally moving to 134 Lauriston Place in 1888.
