Roake's Newbury Scholar Farthing 1839

Roake's Newbury (Berkshire) farthing token dated 1839. Obverse: Legend on three lines in centre and round periphery: "ROAKE NEWBURY 1839 DRAPER & GENERAL DEALER". Reverse: A figure of a boy holding a pear. Plain edge. Roake was a draper and general dealer with a business in Newbury. The figure is thought to represent a young scholar from one of the public schools in the town. Good collectable condition, see photograph.
