Very rare Picard’s Duke of Wellington Anglo-Canadian halfpenny token. Obverse: Bust of Wellington, wearing laurel, to left. Reverse: Text in centre and round edge listing major battles and their dates to Madrid. Diagonally milled edge. Listed in Paul & Bente Withers' "British Copper Tokens 1811-1820" as "RR - VERY RARE". These Peninsular War tokens are thought to have been issued by Picard, the owner of the Hull Lead Works, who spent some of his time in London and took to gambling his fortune away, eventually becoming bankrupt in 1827 and dying in reduced circumstances in 1843. Reasonable collectable with some light edge bruising and digs, see photograph.
