
Scarce Keighley (Yorkshire) penny token countermarked on a Union Copper Company Birmingham penny dated 1812 with oblong and curved countermarks. Listed in Paul & Bente Withers' "British Copper Tokens 1811-1820" as "SCARCE". Countermarking existing tokens was cheaper than issuing new ones and was prevalent in Yorkshire.
