George Washington London copper cent token dated 1783. Obverse: Military bust of George Washington to left with legend: “WASHINGTON & INDEPENDENCE 1783”. Reverse: Britannia seated to left holding olive branch and cap of liberty on spear with legend: “UNITED STATES” and “T.W.I. E.S.” in the exergue. Plain edge. This is thought to have been produced in London by T. W. Ingram from a painting by the American artist Edward Savage, hence the initials in the exergue.
