James II Gun Money shilling dated Sep: (September) 1689. Issued after James II landed in Ireland in a bid to recapture his throne. This base metal coinage was intended to be temporary, and replaced once he succeeded in his bid, which of course, did not happen. This is the only coinage released with the month of issue included in the date as it was proposed that it should be redeemed in sequence of issue. Nice collectable condition with usual light pitting, see photograph.
Spink No: 6581D. Diameter 26mm. VF. £125.00
