John Baliol (1292-1296), silver penny, smooth issue. Obverse: Bust left: "IOHANNES DEI GRA". Reverse: Two mullets of five points and two stars of five points with legend: "REX SCOTORVM". The star/mullet issue was listed as "Extremely Rare" in Patrick Finn's lists. The known examples have mullets in the "REX" and "TOR" quarters. This specimen has the stars in the "REX" and "TOR" quarters and one assumes must be rarer still. Reasonable collectable condition with small edge chip and reverse slightly off-centre, see photograph.
