Alexander III (1249-1286), First Coinage silver cut halfpenny, type III, Perth Mint, moneyer Ion Cokin. Obverse: Neat bust left with small crown: "[A] LEXAN [DER REX]". Reverse: Long voided cross with stars in quarters: "[ION CO] KIN ONP". Please note that the partial reverse legend could also be interpreted as "KIN WAL or WIL" which might be moneyers Walter or Wilam operating from Kinghorn. However if this were the case it would be an unrecorded die and the evidence is not strong enough in my opinion to be certain. Good collectable condition, see photograph. Spink No: S.5043. Diameter 18mm. F+. £25.00 e-mail David at d-stuart@d-stuart.demon.co.uk to order. www.abccoinsandtokens.com |
