William the Lion Edinburgh Penny Phase A Moneyer Hue

William the Lion (1165-1214), silver penny, phase A (1195-c.1205), Edinburgh mint, moneyer Hue. Obverse: Bust to left: "WILELMVS R::" missing the "X" possibly due to the large "V". This feature has previously been noted on a Ravl Roxburgh specimen though a slightly different die. Reverse: Short voided cross with star in each quarter: "HVE ON EDNEB", retrograde "N". The obverse and possibly the reverse are previously unrecorded dies. Nice collectable condition with the reverse slightly off-centre and one quarter lightly struck on a full-size flan, see photograph.
