George I Shilling 1723 SSC Second Bust

SOLD

George I (1714-1727) silver SSC shilling dated 1723, second bust. SSC denotes that this coin was made from silver supplied by the South Sea Company, a joint stock offering in the first quarter of the 18th century which eventually went bust resulting in major financial losses for those investors who did not sell out in time (sounds familiar!). Reasonable collectable condition, see photograph.

Spink No: S.3648. Diameter 26mm. VG. £35.00
