Spittle's Gibraltar copper two quartos dated 1820. Obverse: Nice view of lion seated to left with paw on city key: “PAYABLE AT JAMES SPITTLE'S GIBRALTAR”. Reverse: View of church: “VALE DOS QUARTOS 1820". These were issued by James Spittle, a local merchant, in an attempt to alleviate the local shortage of small denomination currency.
