Gibraltar Catton's Two Quartos 1813

Catton's Gibraltar copper two quartos dated 1813. Obverse: Nice view of lion seated to left with paw on city key: “PAYABLE AT RICHARD CATTONS GOLDSMITH.GIBRALTAR 1813.”. Reverse: Value in wreath surmounted by crown: “AGENTE PARA LA FABRICA DE DIAMANTES PATENTES. DE DUDDELL. HOLBORN. LONDRES 2 QUARTOS”. These were issued by Richard Catton, a local goldsmith and jeweller, in an attempt to alleviate the local shortage of small denomination currency. Twenty-four quarts made up one real. Lovely collectable condition for type, see photograph.
