Wilkinson's Misspelt Iron Master & Vulcan Halfpenny 1793

John Wilkinson's (Warwickshire) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1793. Obverse: Bust of John Wilkinson with his name misspelt and legend: “IOHN WILKISON IRON MASTER”. Reverse: Vulcan seated hammering on anvil behind which is a ship and legend: “HALFPENNY 1793”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE IN ANGLESEY LONDON OR LIVERPOOL” with retrograde “N”s. The Wilkinson Series was wrongly attributed by Dalton & Hamer to Warwickshire and should have been included in the Shropshire section. Nice collectable condition for type, slightly off centre, see photograph.
