Birmingham (Warwickshire) copper (possibly brass?) Conder halfpenny token, dated 1792.
Obverse: Bust of General Elliot to the left: “GENERAL ELLIOT.”.
Reverse: Fleur-de-Lys in centre: “BIRMINGHAM HALFPENNY 1792”. Edge
inscription: “PAYABLE AT HENRY BIGGS'S MOORE STREET”. This was issued by
Henry Biggs who was the landlord of a public house named either, the
“General Elliot”, or the “Dr. Johnson's Head”, located in Moore Street,
Birmingham. General Elliot was the heroic commander of the British
garrison of Gibraltar that withstood a Spanish siege lasting over three
