Scarce Horton's Stafford (Staffordshire) copper Conder penny token dated 1801. Obverse: The Armorial bearings of the Town of Stafford, a triple-towered castle within four lions and legend: “STAFFORD 1801”. Reverse: A cypher “WH” in ornamental script and legend: “PENNY”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE BY HORTON AND COMPANY X X X”. William Horton was a boot and shoe manufacturer with a business in Stafford. Listed in Bell's “Commercial Coins. 1787-1804” as “SCARCE”.
