Reverse: Britannia seated, leaning on her shield with the cap of liberty falling from her spear: "ROUSE BRITANNIA!". Edge inscription: "SPENCE x DEALER x IN x COINS x LONDON x". Charles Fox was outspoken in his defence of the American Colonies, support of the French Revolution and a driving force behind the abolition of slavery, finally getting his Anti-Slavery Bill passed through Parliament shortly before his death. Produced by Thomas Spence, a reformer who rarely missed an opportunity to attack the politics of the day and spent some time in prison for his efforts. In this token he is calling to the public to wake up and prevent freedom from slipping away. Lovely collectable condition, see photograph.
