Thomas Spence’s London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1796. Obverse: A coining press in centre: "* INSCRIBED TO COLLECTORS OF MEDALS * COINING PRESS * 1796". Reverse: A crown and harp over two thistles: "*ENGLAND * IRELAND * SCOTLAND 1796". Edge inscription: "SPENCE x DEALER x IN x COINS x LONDON x". Thomas Spence was a reformer who rarely missed an opportunity to attack the politics of the day and spent some time in prison for his efforts. Good collectable condition, a little off-centre and possibly cleaned in the past, see photograph.
