Thomas Spence’s London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1795. Obverse: A sailor press-ganging a landsman with legend: “* BRITISH * LIBERTY * DISPLAYED * 1795”. Reverse: Lion with crowing cockerel and legend: “LET TYRANTS TREMBLE AT THE CROW OF LIBERTY 1795”. Plain edge. Thomas Spence was a reformer who rarely missed an opportunity to attack the politics of the day and spent some time in prison for his efforts. Nice collectable condition with small flan flaw behind the cockerel, see photograph.
