Thomas Spence’s London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token undated. Obverse: Legend on nine lines: “T SPENCE BOOKSELLER DEALER IN PRINTS & COINS N 8 LITTLE TURNSTILE HOLBORN LONDON”. Reverse: Standing figure of Minerva holding cap of liberty on pole and Justice on her shield with legend: “TRUTH FOR MY HELM & JUSTICE FOR MY SHIELD”. Plain edge. Thomas Spence was a reformer who rarely missed an opportunity to attack the politics of the day and spent some time in prison for his efforts. Ex-Spence, Fawcett-Litman and Lincoln Collections.
