Thomas Spence’s London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1794 and 1790. Obverse: Bust of Spence to left with legend: “* T * SPENCE * 7 MONTHS IMPRISONED FOR HIGH TREASON 1794. Reverse: Sleeping shepherd under a tree with date beneath: “1790. Plain edge. Thomas Spence was a reformer who rarely missed an opportunity to attack the politics of the day and spent some time in prison for his efforts. Good collectable condition, see photograph.
