Thomas Spence’s London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1794. Obverse: Bust of Spence to left with legend: “* T * SPENCE * 7 MONTHS IMPRISONED FOR HIGH TREASON 1794”. Reverse: Men dancing and eating under a tree with legend: “AFTER THE REVOLUTION”. Edge inscription: “SPENCE x DEALER x IN x COINS x LONDON x”. Thomas Spence was a reformer who rarely missed an opportunity to attack the politics of the day and spent some time in prison for his efforts. Lovely collectable condition, see photograph.
