Thomas Spence’s London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1794. Obverse: Bust of Spence to left: “* T * SPENCE * 7 MONTHS IMPRISONED FOR HIGH TREASON 1794”. Reverse: A heart on hand within wreath: “HONOUR”. Plain edge. Thomas Spence was a reformer who rarely missed an opportunity to attack the politics of the day and spent some time in prison for his efforts. Lovely collectable condition with the reverse slightly off-centre, see photograph.
