Scarce Black Horse Tower Hill London Masonic Halfpenny

Scarce Masonic Tower Hill London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token undated. Obverse: The coat of arms of the Free Masons with legend: “24 NOV 1790 PRINCE OF WALES ELECTED G M.” (Grand Master). Reverse: Cupid and Masonic emblems within a triangle and legend: “WISDOM STRENGTH & BEAUTY”, “SIT LUX ET LUX FUIT”. Edge inscription: “HALFPENNY PAYABLE AT THE BLACK HORSE TOWER-HILL.”. This is thought to have been issued by the landlord of the “Black Horse Tavern” in Victualling House Square, Tower Hill, London. It was probably a Masonic lodge at the time of the issue, kept by a brother of the craft. Listed in Bell’s “Commercial Coins 1787-1804” as “SCARCE”. Nice collectable condition, see photograph.
