Scarce James' Lion and Tiger London Halfpenny 1796

Scarce James’ London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1796. Obverse: Lion holding a shield inscribed with: "No. 6 MARTLETT COURT BOW STREET LONDON" with legend: "C. JAMES". Reverse: Walking tiger with legend: "ROYAL MALE TIGER * 1796 * C JAMES". Edge inscription: "SPENCE x DEALER x IN x COINS x LONDON x". This was to advertise James' die engraving business and uses a Pidcock die for the reverse. Listed in Dalton & Hamer as: "SCARCE". Nice collectable condition for type, see photograph.
