Scarce Charles Biggar's London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1796. Obverse: Legend on eight lines: "C : BIGGAR SPRING-GARDEN COFFEE-HOUSE AND HOTEL. FOR GENTLEMEN AND FAMILIES -----". Reverse: Legend on eight lines in centre and around periphery: "BIGGAR'S CORRECTER MSS. ARMY LIST BY SUBSCRIPTION COMMENCING JAN.Y 1ST. 1796 * CONTINUED ANNUALLY. SUBSCRIPTION TWO SHILLS. & SIX PENCE EACH". Plain edge. Listed in Dalton & Hamer as "SCARCE". Charles Biggar ran a Coffee House and Hotel in Spring Gardens, London and published the "Army List". His coffee house was close to the War Office and was frequented by army officers. He was declared bankrupt in 1797. Ex-Neil Beaton Collection. Nice collectable condition, see photograph.
