Scarce Christ's Hospital London Penny 1800

Christ’s Hospital London (Middlesex) Conder penny token dated 1800. Obverse: A monogram cypher above date: “CH 1800”. Reverse: Value in centre with floral ornaments above and below: “PENNY”. Plain edge. Christ's Hospital was created by Edward VI for the education and maintenance of the young and helpless. These tokens were issued as private currency for the scholars, and were spent at privileged tradesmen's shops. Listed in Dalton & Hamer as “SCARCE” in fine condition. Ex-Gahlin Collection. Good collectable condition for type with some light edge bruises, previously cleaned and now toning out, see photograph.
