John Fielding's Manchester Grocers Halfpenny 1793

John Fielding’s Manchester (Lancashire) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1793. Obverse: The Grocers’ arms consisting of a shield, with a griffin on either side, surmounted by a saddled camel over a banner inscribed “GOD GRANT GRACE” with legend: “MANCHESTER PROMISSORY HALFPENNY 1793”. Reverse: The bale mark of the East India Company in centre with legend: “PAYABLE AT INo FIELDING'S GROCER & TEA DEALER”. Plain edge. Issued by John Fielding who was a grocer and tea dealer with a business at 27 Withygrove, Manchester. Nice collectable condition with light scratches across shield on obverse, see photograph.
