John Simmons' Staplehurst Prancing Horse Halfpenny 1794

John Simmons' Staplehurst (Kent) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1794. Obverse: Stag's head crest above: "I S" cypher with legend: "STAPLEHURST HALFPENNY 1794". Reverse: Prancing horse with legend: “FOR CHANGE NOT FRAUD 1794”. Unusual with the date on both sides. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE BY I: SIMMONS STAPLEHURST XX X X X ”. John Simmons was a freeholder and tallow chandler with a business in Staplehurst. Good collectable condition, see photograph.
