Scarce Petersfield Stork Liberty & Commerce (Talbot Allum & Lee)  Halfpenny 1793 / 1794

Scarce Petersfield (Hampshire) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1793 and 1794. Obverse: A stork on a tuft of marshy ground: “PROMISSORY HALFPENNY. 1793”. Reverse: Standing Commerce holding liberty cap on pole with bale behind: “LIBERTY & COMMERCE 1794”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE AT THE WAREHOUSE LIVERPOOL X X X”. Although a specious token, the reverse die was used for the Talbot Allum & Lee series in the United States. Listed in Dalton & Hamer as “SCARCE”,  Bill McIvor more recently placed it as “SCARCE+ to RARE” in CTCJ #35. Poor collectable condition with slight crimp, see photograph.
