Scarce Earl Howe and Anchor Pun Emsworth Halfpenny 1794

Scarce Emsworth (Hampshire) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1794. Obverse: Bust of Earl Howe facing left: “MAY THE FRENCH EVER KNOW HOWE TO RULE THE MAIN”. Reverse: Anchor and cable above date in centre: “IN COMMEMORATION OF THE GLORIOUS FIRST OF JUNE 1794”. Diagonally milled edge. Interesting use of Howe's name as a pun against the French. Listed in Dalton & Hamer as "SCARCE". Comes with old collector's ticket. Lovely collectable condition with bronzed finish, see photograph.
