Morse’s Newent (Gloucestershire) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1796. Obverse: An apple tree against which rests a shield bearing a griffin’s head: “INDUSTRY LEADS TO HONOUR”. Reverse: Fascinating spiral legend to centre of coin: “SEVERAL THOUSANDS YOUNG HEALTHY & FINE CRAB APPLE & PEAR STOCKS RAISED FROM THE KERNAL TO BE SOLD BY J. MORSE NEWENT GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 1796”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE AT NEWENT”, the rest engrailed. Good collectable condition, see photograph.
