Kempson's South Shields Coal Trade Mule Halfpenny


Kempson's South Shields (County Durham) mule copper Conder halfpenny token undated. Obverse: A three-masted coaling barque with legend: “SUCCESS TO THE COAL TRADE”. Reverse: Legend on eight lines: “MAY PEACE & PLENTY ACCOMPANY THE PRINCE & PRINCESS OF WALES.”. Edge inscription: “PAYABLE IN LONDON” the rest engrailed. Ex-Gantz Collection, bought Glendining 23/6/41. Lovely collectable condition with reflective surfaces but the light remains of a collector's number on the obverse, see photograph.
